The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a state-established cooperative that, along with its 26 cities and retail suppliers, provides water for 19 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage and other resource-management programs.
Student Intern - Bay-Delta Year-Round (District Temp-PT)
This District Temp Part Time Student Intern position will receive training and mentoring while performing assignments that offer practical experience and exposure to MWD’s organizational structure.
Specifically, this position will support Metropolitan’s scientists in their efforts to advance scientific, policy, and regulatory understanding in the Bay-Delta. Areas of scientific focus include Delta Smelt ecology and aquaculture, contaminants and water quality, and salmonid ecology. Metropolitan’s scientists work collaboratively with federal, state, and local agencies and academic and non-governmental organizations on these efforts.
The primary duties of this position include participating in relevant scientific, regulatory, and water operations and water policy meetings, developing, using and analyzing modeling inputs and outputs, participating in scientific studies, supporting staff in the review of scientific literature, regulatory, legislative, and policy documents, researching pertinent topics related to water supply, board activities, regulations, and legislation, assisting with data management, analysis, and reporting, and drafting accurate, concise, and informative briefing materials, including basic maps and figures, presentations, and other outreach and communications resources.
This Student Intern position will be located at Metropolitan’s office in downtown Sacramento, CA.
Schedule: (Full-time (during summer break) and/ or Part-time (up to 18 hours per week)
• The estimated length of the assignment will range from three to twelve months. Dates are flexible.
• The length of the term will be determined based on the student's class schedule, availability, and employer needs.
