Ocean Rescue Swimmer- seasonal
Position Overview
We are seeking strong, experienced ocean swimmers to join our seasonal Ocean Rescue Team. The Ocean Rescue Swimmer is responsible for monitoring surf conditions, preventing water-related incidents, and performing open-water rescues when necessary. This role requires exceptional physical fitness, situational awareness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor ocean conditions including currents, tides, and surf
Identify and proactively prevent hazardous situations
Perform ocean rescues using appropriate techniques and equipment
Provide first aid, CPR, and emergency response care
Communicate effectively with team members and beachgoers
Educate the public on water safety and rip current awareness
Assist with setup and breakdown of safety equipment
Qualifications
Required:
Strong open-water swimming ability
Experience in surf/ocean environments
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or the ability to obtain)
Ability to pass a timed swim and physical fitness test
NC Driver ‘s License
Minimum age: 18
Preferred:
Previous lifeguard or ocean rescue experience
Surf rescue or paddleboard experience
Physical Requirements
Swim in high surf, rip currents, and variable weather conditions
Sprint on sand carrying rescue equipment
Lift and assist individuals in distress
Work extended hours in sun and heat
Work Schedule
Weekends, holidays, and peak beach hours required
Shifts may vary based on tides and weather conditions
