The Department of Social Sciences (SOCS); School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS) is looking for up to three student employees to assist with our general administrative operations. This position will also assist with creating print and digital graphics for department courses and events, and will work with the Department Support Supervisor to develop content for SOCS social media pages. Qualified candidates will be able to work independently, work efficiently, be personable, and perform varying tasks, moving from one to another with ease. Graphic design, social media management, and/or writing skills are highly desired.
General Duties
- Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
- Become knowledgeable about department and university resources to effectively respond to inquiries.
- Answer phone calls and respond to emails using our ticketing system or Outlook.
- Work with SIAS Front Desk staff to check in appointments and notify/inform the
appropriate individual through MS Teams.
- Provide administrative support to the Department Support Supervisor.
- Assist with creation of flyers and social media graphics for departmental sponsored events and courses.
- Under the guidance of the Department Support Supervisor, develop and schedule content to post on department social media pages.
- Perform administrative tasks, including data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, filing, etc.
- Assist with department records maintenance.
- Assist supervisor with compiling Course Evaluation packets including collecting the evaluations and scanning the results.
- Assist with departmental meetings and events including room setup, material dissemination, and event teardown.
- Performed other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Qualified applicants will be currently enrolled, undergraduates of the University of Washington Tacoma in good academic standing with the university and uphold all of the University standards of conduct.
- Experience with general office equipment (phone, computer, fax, copier, scanner) and Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Positive, professional attitude and an orientation to service.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Able to follow instruction with a strong attention to detail.
- Good judgment and sensitivity to confidential issues.
- Strong organizational skills.
FERPA training will be required upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with graphic design tools such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
- Experience or an interest/excitement for social media management.
- Familiarity with University programs is highly preferred.
